Audlem Bowling Club Retains Presidents Cup in Magnificent Style!
Audlem Bowling Club brought the curtain down on a memorable season on Saturday, 10th October, with a magnificent victory in the Presidents Cup Final against Victoria at Newport.
Having won the prestigious trophy last season, Audlem faced the challenge of defending their title. They did so in remarkable fashion, securing a total 12 0 clean sweep across every single game on the green!
Despite Victoria holding a generous 70-chalk handicap advantage to start, Audlem s squad put on a masterclass of consistent, high-quality crown green bowling. Team Captain Jim Stretch played a pivotal role in the success, crafting a shrewd team selection that combined experience, depth, and form. His strategy paid dividends immediately, as Audlem systematically erased Victoria s head start to win the match 252 points to 228.
Match Highlights & Team Performance
Dominant Displays
Ian Forster recorded a commanding victory with a 21-8 win over John Graham Westwood, while Sue Condrey was equally ruthless in her 21-4 defeat of Karen Nicholls.
Early & Middle Order Grit
Todd Ridge set the tempo early with a hard-fought 21-18 win at No. 1. Dave Condrey (21-13), David Hardman (21-13), and Andy Watson (21-16) kept the scoreboard ticking over in style, while Captain Jim Stretch led by example on the green with a solid 21-15 victory.
Crucial Late Successes
The squad s remarkable depth shone through in the closing stages. James Greaves held off a tough opponent to win 21-17, while Allan Davenport (21-12), Adam Thelwell (21-11), and Tony Wrench (21 -2) all produced emphatic wins to keep Victoria under pressure.
Sealing the Sweep
Anchoring the final match, Andrew Icke displayed great composure under pressure, edging out Nicky Birch 21-19 in a nail-biting finish to guarantee the 12-game sweep.
A Credit to the Village
Beyond the impressive silverware, what truly stood out was the camaraderie, composure, and team spirit displayed by all 12 players. Winning back-to-back titles in such dominant fashion is a testament to the skill, dedication, and sportsmanship of our local bowlers.

Putting the Green to Bed
End-of-Season Maintenance Begins at Audlem.
As another fantastic season of bowling draws to a close at Audlem and District Bowling Club, essential behind-the-scenes work to protect and nourish our playing surface is officially underway! Following the final games of the year, specialist contractors Moults have brought in heavy machinery to renovate the green.
Scarification & Turf Care
Footage from the green shows the ride-on scarifier driving back and forth across the lawn to prepare the turf for the winter months:
Scarification & Thatch Clearing
The specialized ride-on machine cuts into the top layer to lift dead moss and thatch, leaving visible, clean lines across the turf.
Aeration & Root Care
Breaking up the compact surface allows essential moisture, air, and autumn nutrients to reach deep into the root system.
Preparing for Spring
Removing old organic matter prevents winter turf diseases and paves the way for a smooth, true roll when play resumes next year.
Notice to Members: Play on the green is strictly paused until further notice while the treated turf settles and recovers.

Jimmy and Campbell Secure J & D Walley Cup Victory in Audlem Bowling Club's Season Finale
Audlem and District Bowling Club marked their final internal competition of the year on Sunday 27th September. While the overall bowling season is still ongoing, internal club tournament play went out on a high note on the green.

The 2026 George Johnson and Connie Huntbach Cups
The day before the tournament, heavy torrential rain threatened to completely wash out the 2026 George Johnson and Connie Huntbach Cups. With thunderous showers predicted, discussion turned to whether the events should be postponed entirely. Lesley Davenport raised concerns over potential low turnout and suggested moving the games back a week, but Sue Condrey advocated for pushing forward. Ultimately, the organisers took a massive gamble and decided to let the morning reveal their fate.

Audlem and District Bowling Club is celebrating a landmark 2026 season, reaching 101 members after welcoming 26 newcomers to the green.

Jimmy Stretch Flies High with Rescheduled A P Gough Trophy Victory
Audlem and District Bowling Club held the penultimate internal club competition of the season today, as 18 entrants took to the green in glorious sunshine to contest the A P Gough Trophy.

Jimmy Stretch & Keith Thelwell clinch Audlem Bowling Club Charity Plate
Jimmy Stretch and Keith Thelwell staged a phenomenal late-game comeback to claim the Audlem and District Bowling Club Charity Plate, defeating Andy Watson and David Davenport 10-5. Held in loving memory of former A-team captain Michael Katterloher, the spirited tournament raised vital funds for AMMF.

Adam Thelwell beaten finalist annual Crewe Cancer Cup Bowls Tournament
Jason Williams of Malbank Bowling Club clinched the prestigious annual Cancer Cup at Crewe Bowling Club, defeating Audlem's Adam Thelwell in a thrilling final. The competitive tournament, which featured a tense opening-round clash between the Thelwell brother, successfully raised vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

On Wednesday, 29th July, the green at Audlem Bowling Club was filled with chatter, applause, and plenty of good-natured competition as the club had the absolute pleasure of hosting a special visit for the Audlem District Community Action Group (ADCA).

Dave Hickson Doubles – Drama on the Green
Condrey and Sturdy Edge Out Rivals in Club Thriller. The momentum at Audlem Bowling Club is officially in overdrive! Following a spectacular season opener on March 8th, 32 players returned to the green on March 22, 2026, for the second club competition of the year, the Dave Hickson Doubles.
